Scholarships are the most over-promised corner of the MBBS-abroad market, so let us start with what is actually true. Many of our partner universities offer merit-based scholarships of 10-30% on tuition for high-performing applicants. Eligibility typically depends on Class 12 marks, NEET score, and an interview at the time of admission. That is real money — on a multi-year programme, a tuition discount at that level can save a family several lakh rupees. What it is not is a free MBBS, and anyone advertising one is selling something else.

How the process actually works

Scholarships are awarded by the universities and governments concerned — not by us, and not by any consultant. Our role is narrower and more useful: we know which partner universities are actually offering awards for the current intake, what the genuine criteria are, and how to present an application so a deserving student is not rejected on paperwork. The decision is made by the university at admission time, usually combining your academic record with an interview. Because availability changes every year, tell your counsellor your shortlist and we will share the live scholarship list for those universities for the current intake — in writing, with the conditions attached.

The renewal condition families miss

The detail that matters most, and the one agents rarely mention: many awards are year-on-year, renewed only if the student maintains the required academic standing. A first-year scholarship is not automatically a five-year scholarship. Before you build a scholarship into your budget, ask two questions and get the answers in writing: is this award renewable, and exactly what marks keep it? We put both on your fee plan so the family arithmetic is honest from day one. Our advice is conservative on purpose — plan your budget on the full fee, and treat any scholarship as relief when it is confirmed, not as income before it exists.

The traps to walk away from

Three patterns should end a conversation with any consultancy immediately. "100% scholarship MBBS abroad" — genuine full-ride awards at recognised medical universities are vanishingly rare and never handed out through agents; the phrase is bait, and the cost reappears elsewhere. "Pay a fee to unlock the scholarship" — real scholarships never require a payment to receive; that is the oldest advance-fee trick in the market. And any scholarship promise made verbally but refused in writing — if the discount is real, the university will state it in your admission paperwork. The honest test is simple: a genuine award reduces the fees printed on your written plan; anything else is theatre.
